We run structured, syllabus-led tuition in small groups and one-to-one, covering SATs, 11 Plus, GCSE, A-Level and adult education. What we're looking for

Essential

  • Strong subject knowledge in Maths, English or Science
  • A degree (or working towards one) in your subject or a related field
  • The ability to explain ideas clearly, patiently and in more than one way
  • Reliability — students and parents depend on consistency
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • QTS, PGCE or prior classroom teaching experience
  • Previous tutoring experience, one-to-one or in small groups
  • Familiarity with UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas)
  • Experience preparing students for SATs, 11 Plus, GCSE or A-Level
  • Confidence teaching mixed-ability small groups
  • An existing enhanced DBS on the update service

Deliver sessions

Teach small groups (max 6) or one-to-one sessions using our schemes of work, adapted to the students in front of you.

Target the gaps

Use assessment results to identify where each student is losing marks, and plan sessions that close those specific gaps.

Mark & feed back

Mark practice work and mock papers against the real mark scheme, giving students clear, actionable feedback.

Track progress

Keep simple records of attendance and progress so parents receive meaningful updates.

Build confidence

Create a supportive atmosphere where students feel safe to get things wrong and ask questions.

Keep students safe

Follow our safeguarding policies and procedures at all times, with training provided.

  • Frequently asked questions

Questions from applicants

No. QTS or a PGCE is desirable but not essential. What matters most is strong subject knowledge, the ability to explain things clearly, and a genuine interest in helping students improve. Many of our best tutors are graduates, postgraduates and PhD students rather than classroom teachers.

Not at all. Most tutors specialise in a particular range — for example, primary and SATs, or GCSE and A-Level. Simply tell us which key stages you're confident teaching and we'll build your timetable around your strengths.

It's flexible. The minimum is typically one session per week, and many tutors build up to several sessions across weekday evenings and weekends. Hours depend on your availability, your subject, and demand at your chosen centre. There are also additional hours available during school holidays if you want them.

We offer competitive hourly rates that reflect your experience, qualifications and the levels you teach. We'll discuss specific rates with you during the application process — please get in touch and we'll be upfront about what we can offer.

Yes. Everyone working with our students holds an enhanced DBS check with barred list information — there are no exceptions. If you already have one on the update service, that's helpful and can speed things up. If you don't, we'll guide you through the process.

Yes, and it's often a good way to increase your hours. Let us know when you apply if you're able to travel between branches, and we'll factor that into your timetable.

Yes — a short trial teaching session is part of our interview process. It gives us a sense of how you work with students, and gives you a realistic feel for our teaching style, resources and group sizes before you commit.

No. We provide schemes of work, past papers, mark schemes and worksheets aligned to the major exam boards. You'll adapt these to the students in your group, but you're never starting from a blank page.

Our tuition is primarily delivered face-to-face at our centres. We do run some online provision, so if you're specifically interested in online teaching, mention it when you apply and we'll let you know what's currently available.

Absolutely. Our evening and weekend sessions fit well around university timetables, and we have a number of undergraduate and postgraduate tutors on our team. Strong A-Level results in your subject and clear communication skills go a long way.
